Webster Computer Public File Area Readme File Last Update 25 Aug, 1997 These files are made available for the users of Webster MultiPort Gateways and MultiPort/LTs. Latest Documents ---------------- The latest documents and release notes are in the directories lt_code/arap.2.10 lt_code/lt.1.13 mpg_code/megan.2.24 File Types ---------- Some files are compressed using Unix's "compress" (.Z extension). They must all be transferred in "binary" mode in order to prevent any conversions that will corrupt the files. Files ending ".sit.hqx" are Macintosh files that have been compressed using StuffIt, and then converted to an "ASCII" form using BinHex. Stuffit Expander will automatically extract the files into their proper Macintosh form. Individual File Descriptions ---------------------------- 0-README Basic explanation This file. Beta Beta-release directory We release Beta (test) versions of upcoming code in this directory. lt_code/docs Current manuals in PDF format for the MultiPort/LT. lt_code/arap.2.xx/ReleaseNotes.2.xx.txt Release notes detailing the software associated with this release, including MultiPort Manager. Problems fixed in to arap.2.xx and enhancements. This file is in plain ASCII. lt_code/arap.2.xx/arap.2.xx.sit.hqx lt_code/arap.2.xx/arap.2.xx.Z arap.2.xx is the gateway code for the MultiPort/LT - the "Application" (or more correctly the "System") that the MultiPort/LT runs to perform routing and gateway functions. The "arap.2.xx.Z" file is for downloading to the MultiPort/LT using mgccc. It can also be used for booting from a Unix host using FTP. The ".sit.hqx" version, when unBinHexed and unStuffIted, results in a "LT Code V2.xx" file, which is for downloading using the MultiPort Manager, or for booting from a Macintosh using MGBoot CDEV. lt_code/lt.1.xx/lt.1.xx.Z lt_code/lt.1.xx/lt.1.xx.sit.hqx The 1.xx versions of the gateway code files are compiled from the same code base as the 2.xx ones, but they don't include the Remote Access or Portshare functions. This code will still fit into the 256KByte FLASH memory of first-shipped MultiPort/LTs, and avoids the need for upgrade where modem functions are not required. lt_code/arap.2.01 through arap.2.xx lt_code/lt.1.01 through lt.1.xx These directories contain previous releases of the MP/LT code and also contain previous documentation files and release notes. They may be useful when chasing networking problems in order to eliminate the version of MPG/LT code from the list of suspects. mac/MGBoot.1.6.sit.hqx MGBoot CDEV version 1.6 MGBoot CDEV allows MultiPort Gateways to be "booted" from a Macintosh. Versions of MGBoot CDEV prior to 1.6 are unable to support booting of a MultiPort/LT from a Macintosh. If this is attempted, MGBoot CDEV will display a Dialog box saying "Requested file is not a MultiPort Boot Image". mac/MGConfig.2.12.sit.hqx MGConfig version 2.12 MGConfig is a Macintosh HyperCard Stack that allows configuration of MultiPort Gateways. It has been superseded by MultiPort Manager, and is no longer recommended for use. This version of MGConfig supports the new filtering capabilities of Megan 2.12. It also supports configuration of the MultiPort/LT, although the new MultiPort Manager would normally be used for this purpose. mac/MGTalk.1.2.sit.hqx MGTalk version 1.2 MGTalk is a serial-port terminal emulator which may be used to monitor the Console port of MultiPort Gateways and MultiPort/LTs. Previous versions of MGTalk required the presence of the input handshake signal from the MultiPort in order to be able to communicate. This version does not require this signal, allowing a wider range of interconnecting cables to be used. mac/MPM.3.1.2.sit.hqx MultiPort Manager version 3.1.2 MultiPort Manager is a Macintosh application that allows configuration of MultiPort Gateways and MultiPort LTs across an AppleTalk network. mac/TSSChooser.sit.hqx TSS Chooser RDEV Refer to the MultiPort manuals for a full description of TSSChooser. mac/MacDump/Dumper.Hqx mac/MacDump/Restore.Hqx These are the latest versions of the MacDump programs for the Macintosh. They require macdump to be compiled on a Unix host. mac/MacMgccc.3.6.sit.hqx This is a Macintosh-compiled version of mgccc. It has a command line interface, much like mgccc for unix, and could be best described as "User-Hostile". Refer to unix/mgccc.3.6.sh.Z for documents mac/PortShare.2.6.demo.sit.hqx This file unstuffs into a folder containing a demonstration version of PortShare Pro software, as well as some notes on how PortShare can be applied in various situations. The demonstration version has a session time limit of 2 minutes. mpg_code/megan-all-versions/MPG.P2.lance.test.s7.Z mpg_code/megan-all-versions/MPG.P2.lance.test.sit.hqx.Z These are test programs to detect the revision level of the Ethernet controller in older MultiPort Gateways, to determine capability for operation with AppleTalk Phase 2. These files are booted in the same way that the Megan files are, but a console must be connected to determine the result of the test. The "s7" version file is for booting using FTP from a Unix host. The ".sit.hqx" version, when unBinHexed and unStuffIted, is for booting from a Macintosh using MGBoot CDEV. mpg_code/megan-old-versions/Megan.2.11.15.Z mpg_code/megan.2.09 through Megan.2.xx These are previous versions of Megan. They may be useful when chasing networking problems in order to eliminate the version of Megan from the list of suspects. mpg_code/megan.2.xx/megan.2.xx.Z mpg_code/megan.2.xx/megan.2.xx.sit.hqx Megan is the gateway code for the MultiPort Gateway - the "Application" (or more correctly the "System") that the MultiPort Gateway runs to perform routing and gateway functions. For documentation, also refer to documentation files in the previous versions of Megan (to update your old manuals) and to the documents in the latest "arap" directory for the release notes. snmp/Webster.MIB.all.txt.Z snmp/Webster.MIB.atalk.txt.Z snmp/Webster.MIB.mib2.txt.Z snmp/Webster.MIB.private.txt.Z These are the SNMP MIB files for Megan version 2.12. unix/atalkad.2.2.sh.Z Atalkad (AppleTalk Administrative Daemon) allows centralized management of IP Tunnelling (IPTalk) from a Unix host. This version of atalkad allows the entry of AppleTalk Phase 2 Network Ranges and Zone Lists into the atalkatab file. Full documentation is included with this archive. unix/mgccc.3.6.sh.Z Mgccc allows configuration uploading, downloading, resetting and rebooting of MultiPort Gateways and MultiPort/LTs from Unix and VAX hosts (the latter requiring TCP/IP support). This version of mgccc supports MultiPort Gateways running all versions of Megan (preferably post 2.12) and MultiPort/LTs running all versions of the arap and lt code. It also supports downloading of new versions of code to MultiPort/LTs. unix/mgcmd.1.03.sh.Z Mgcmd allows access to the MultiPort Gateway and MultiPort/LT Consoles over the network from a Unix host, allowing statistics monitoring and restart/reboot control. This version of mgcmd supports clearing of the new debug flags, as well as handling connections with timestamping enabled.
